The Official Parallels Virtualization Blog

The Official Parallels Virtualization Blog: "Since I launched my 'Ask Ben Anything' column on the Official Parallels Blog, its become the Blog's most popular weekly read, with several thousand loyal Parallels users and tech geeks from all over the internet coming by to see what's up.

Because its been so popular - and so productive in getting common user questions answered - we're promoting 'Ask Ben Anything' to the main Parallels website, under the guise of our new Knowledge Base. The Knowledge Base (KB for short) will reside in the 'Support' section, and will be a living, searchable (by date and topic) FAQ of most-asked questions about Parallels products. This will be a great resource for new users who are getting started, and for old friends who need more information.

The important part here is that YOU determine what is in the KB! Keep your questions coming to askben@parallels.com, and they, along with the questions our support team see, will be compiled into a weekly KB update that covers the most common questions for the last 7 days.

'Ask Ben Anything' will live on here on the Blog, but I will be focusing more on forthcoming features, usage/deployment strategies, and tech commentary and general industry trends.

I am making this announcement now because the KB should be ready to go just about the time I get finished with my week long 2,985 mile drive from my current home"

Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh

Q&A: From Macworld Conference & Expo 2007, the head of Microsoft's Mac Business Unit discusses the story behind the next generation of Microsoft's productivity software suite for the Mac.:

"Microsoft continues to deliver world-class technology products for the Mac platform – as it has for more than 20 years. Founded in 1997, Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (Mac BU) is a leading developer of productivity software for Mac customers worldwide. Currently available products include Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac, a productivity suite that is comprised of the e-mail application and personal-information manager Entourage 2004, Word 2004, Excel 2004 and PowerPoint 2004; and Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0."

enhanced compatibility and Mac-first, Mac-only capabilities.:

To improve collaboration between Mac customers and their Windows-based PC counterparts, the Mac BU has continued to make compatibility with Office for Windows a key priority. Like the 2007 Office release, Office 2008 for Mac will use the Office Open XML Formats, which were just approved in December by standards body Ecma International as an international standard. In spring 2007, Microsoft plans to release a public beta of the file format converters for the current version, Office 2004 for Mac, so users can read and write the new Office Open XML Formats. Six to eight weeks after Office 2008 for Mac is launched, the Mac BU intends to ship final versions of the converters."
