And it's not as if there's no downside to running it: since this software needs to get pretty deep into the system, it often causes bad problems -- and, ironically enough security problems -- if it malfunctions or if the programmers make a blunder. That is constantly happening on Windows, and has from time-time on the Mac, too, as alert tech-news watchers wil know. Apple had to drop MacAfee from the .mac subscription after it screwed people's machines, and Symatec's Norton AV was doing some really stupid and dangerous things with permissions."
